CloseAs some of you may have already heard, some of our Gracie Barra Singapore athletes will be competing at the Springroll Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open 2018 in Jakarta this weekend, and we’ll be sending them lots of good vibes!
If you’re experiencing the FOMO or just feel that you weren’t ready to take part in this tournament, we suggest competing at the IBJJF Manila Open (Gi & No-Gi) on 26-27 January 2019.
Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia, the Manila Open is the closest IBJJF tournament in distance to Singapore, and we’re expecting a large group of competitors from GBSG to be competing in this tournament. Manila is also one of the more wallet-friendly places to compete at given that budget airlines from Singapore to the Philippines are a dime-a-dozen, hotels and food prices don’t break the bank. Not to mention, we had a ton of fun at last year’s event!
Check out this video from last year’s Manila Open:
Here’s the breakdown of what to expect in terms of costs:
Flight: Direct flights start from about $164 for the 25th and return to Singapore on 27th (this is doable if you have the luxury of time and have loads of leave from work or school, AND you don’t plan on checking in any baggage). If you’re not planning on taking leave or just taking a halfday, and want to get home before midnight on Sunday, look to spend between $200 to $350 for the flight.
Hotel: Our recommended hotel is the Red Planet Aseana City which will set you back about $80 a night per room, so it’s $40 a night if you have a room mate. It’s a budget-friendly hotel that is clean and close to the tournament venue (about 1.7km away).
Total Budget: Expect to spend between $280 – $450 for this trip’s flight and accommodation.
If you’re thinking about competing at this tournament, please speak with Professor Bruno or Alisson about your plans!
