Gracie Barra wins second place overall team at the IBJJF Manila Open 2019.

Over the weekend, Gracie Barra competed at the IBJJF Manila International Open 2019 (Gi & No-Gi) and bagged a whopping total of 45 medals made out of 19 Gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze. The team also took home the 2nd place team trophy for the Gi category!

At all levels (from white to black belt), team GBSG displayed an exceptional technical level and a whole lot of heart! We would especially like to congratulate our white belt members for their courage and determination on stepping out on the mats to compete, many of whom were doing so for the first time. Regardless of whether you brought home a medal, we would like to commend you for not giving up throughout the training process, for your perseverance, and for supporting each other each step of the way.

Thank you to all the GB professors who not only coached the team that day, but for leading by example on the mats, and for putting together a solid competition program. Despite having your own matches to worry about, you were still there to coach the team with great passion and fervor.

Achieving positive results in BJJ is a feat that can only be achieved as a team – whether it’s showing up for training to drill with your team mates or offering encouragement and cheering from the sidelines – every bit counts.

The team also had a lot of fun exploring Manila and getting to know each other (and our foreign counterparts from other GB schools) at our team dinner after the tournament! We’re so excited for the next tournament – see you guys on the mats real soon!
