CloseOver the weekend, Gracie Barra Singapore joined Gracie Barra Belo Horizonte and South Jakarta to compete at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo 2018. GBSG bagged 1 Gold and 2 Silver (from Nicholas Goh, Audrey Kua and Professor Kon respectively), and to end the tournament on a high note was Nick’s well-deserved promotion from white to blue belt.
After submitting all his opponents in a 9-man division, Nick took home the gold and was surprised by Professor Bruno Amorim of GB South Jakarta when the professor, on behalf of GBSG’s Professor Alisson, untied the white belt around his waist and replaced it with a blue one.
“Getting my blue belt promotion at a big tournament like the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo, where some of the BJJ competitors I look up to also compete at, is such an honour. There is a lot more affirmation about what my blue belt represents as the next stage in my jiu-jitsu journey,” says Nick.
For the newly-appointed blue belt, competition does not phase him even as he goes up against more seasoned opponents. Already signed up for the Asian Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship in September, Nick will head back to Tokyo to go head-to-head with some of Asia’s strongest competitors.
