Coach Mitsuyo Maeda originally introduced the fundamentals of BJJ to Carlos Gracie and his siblings during their training in Kodokan judo ground combat (Newaza). Later, the Gracie’s taught their skills to friends, acquaintances, and pupils, who in turn taught others to develop the modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
